Welsh Carols from King's

Date:18 December 2017

Adams Fall News copy

Richard Elfyn Jones's new carol 'Adam's Fall' received its first performance on December 11 at the Megaron Concert Hall, Athens by the Choir of King's College Cambridge. There will follow many performances of it during the Christmas period by different choirs, including by the Choir of King's in their famous Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, broadcast live on Radio 4 on Christmas Eve from King’s College Chapel and repeated on Christmas Day on Radio 3.

A carol by Huw Watkins has the honour of being this year's 'Commissioned Carol' at Carols from King’s. It is a setting of 'Carol Eliseus' - a plygain carol from Wales. This is an especially notable occasion, as it will be the first carol sung in Welsh at this event. Watkins has said that "setting this language has unlocked an indefinable Welshness in my music".
