Talking to Lore has basically been like finally putting the sponges in the oven that I’ve been preparing, adding ingredients to and whisking vacantly for over a year. We’re currently halfway through letting them bake, but as well as watching the layers take shape and colour, I’m at the countertop working on the icing to make things stick.
Crumby metaphors aside (I don’t even bake), the overall essence of my goal from this opportunity is to try to uncover my next big step forward (does that count as a metaphor?). The time I spent establishing work for myself as a composer and musician after graduating was always going to be an experiment, and there have been the expected peaks and troughs (OK, the metaphors stay). Now, it feels like there are matters important to me involved in accessing a career that I want to get back on track. We started wide and are narrowing our attentions as we understand and learn together, checking in on Lore’s vast and varied experience of the industry, its population and the wider art world with each development - which is massively useful.
Even though sometimes I feel like I’m trying to have my cake and eat it with regards to where I want to be in music, the doors are open in Lore’s kitchen and I feel like we’re cooking on gas.
Don't worry, I’ll see myself out.
