Official submissions to ISCM - World New Music Days 2019, Estonia Tŷ Cerdd has announced the list of composers and works selected by the Welsh Section of the ISCM (International Society for Contemporary Music) to represent Wales at ISCM World New Music Days 2019. The event takes place in Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia, from 2 to 10 May 2019. The Wales panel selected six works as the official submission to the international jury: ELOISE GYNN - Song of the Awakening Dawn (2011) ANDREW LEWIS - Straatmuziek (2016) BETHAN MORGAN-WILLIAMS - Ghost Tongues (2018) LYNNE PLOWMAN - The Mariner's Compass (2014) ANDREW POWELL - Points upon a Canvas (2010, rev. 2018) DANIEL SOLEY - Socialite (2016) At least one of the six works included in our national submission will be performed during the festival (the international jury can, however, select more than one of these works). 37 submissions were received from Welsh and Wales-based composers, across nine categories. The jury was struck by the number and quality of the submissions and by the stylistic range, which provided a striking insight into the range of work being written in Wales, as well as further afield by Welsh composers. The announcement of the works selected for performance across the 9-day event is expected in late-October. World New Music Days 2019 will provide an important platform for the selected composer, and a key opportunity for the profile of Wales, its composers and new music scene.
