SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE
My artwork relates to concepts connected to the environment and science. I have developed methods to fuse theoretical research with artistic practice.
I have a self taught DIY approach to tech, electronics and mechanics - which I have been developing for over 10 years.
I am experienced in finding technical / practical / creative solutions for building installations / instruments / DIY tools for sound making - including knowledge of materials / fabrication techniques / circuitry and mechanical designs that may be application to audio-visual / kinetic installations.
I can advise on field recording techniques and equipment
I have experience creating hand made 16mm films including in-camera and camera-less approaches.
I may be able to help a composer to:
-
Work in an interdisciplinary manner through the combination of art forms.
-
Explore concepts outside artistic disciplines and methods to bring them into their work - such as science / theories / research around environmental concerns
-
Combine physical ‘making’ and ‘constructing’ with digital tools (NB. - I’m not a programmer)
-
Bring 16mm analogue film into their practice - focussed on ecologically concerned approaches.

My audio-visual creations echo phenomena found in the natural world to explore the relationship between people, other species, and the earth’s systems. The work I produce often sits somewhere between kinetic sound sculptures and newly invented musical instruments that can be played live in countless ways. I draw on systems, models, and data from animal behaviours, biodiversity and dynamic ecosystems, and often employ open scores and chance procedures.
