Jerry Zhuo 1993

Jerry Yue Zhuo is currently studying for a PhD in Composition at Cardiff University School of Music under Dr Arlene Sierra. He first moved to the UK in 2010 and received music training from Diana and Dominic Neville. After graduating from London School of Economics, he decided to pursue a career in music and subsequently gained an MA Composition with distinction from Cardiff University in 2017.

In his music, Jerry looks for a negotiation between the maturity of his self-identity and past influences from ‘Chineseness,’ the stereotypical Chinese culture. His most recent pieces explore the theatricality, language and symbolism from his home culture of Minnan. They have been performed in China, Poland, Spain and the UK, by ensembles such as E-MEX, Armida Quartet, and VICE ensemble.

Mae Jerry Yue Zhuo wrthi’n astudio ar gyfer PhD mewn Cyfansoddi yn Ysgol Gerdd Prifysgol Caerdydd o dan Dr Arlene Sierra. Symudodd yn gyntaf i’r Deyrnas Unedig yn 2010 gan dderbyn hyfforddiant cerdd gan Diana a Dominic Neville. Ar ôl graddio o Ysgol Economeg Llundain (LSE), penderfynodd ddilyn gyrfa mewn cerddoriaeth gan ennill MA mewn Cyfansoddi gyda rhagoriaeth o Brifysgol Caerdydd yn 2017.

Yn ei gerddoriaeth, mae Jerry yn chwilio am drafodaeth rhwng ei hunaniaeth yn aeddfedu a dylanwadau ‘Tsieineiddwch’ o’i orffennol, sef y diwylliant Tsieineaidd ystrydebol. Mae ei ddarnau diweddaraf yn archwilio theatreg, iaith a symbolaeth diwylliant ei gartref ym Minnan. Mae ei waith wedi cael ei berfformio yn Tsieina, Gwlad Pwyl, Sbaen a’r Deyrnas Unedig, a hynny gan ensembles megis E-MEX, Pedwarawd Armida, ac ensemble VICE.
