Mae Joss Smith yn gweithio o fewn gwahanol gyfryngau, a’r rheiny yn amrywio o weithiau sain yn unig i gerddoriaeth electronig, theatr offerynnol a chelf perfformio. Ffactor sy’n cysylltu’r gwahanol ddulliau hyn yw’r defnydd o ddisgwyliad i greu tensiwn a gwyrdroi naratifau cyfansoddiadol.

Mae nifer o ensembles wedi perfformio gweithiau Joss, gan gynnwys Cerddorfa Aurora, Ensemble X.Y, Triawd Aurora ac Ensemble Esbjerg. Mae cyflawniadau diweddar yn cynnwys bod yn rhan o gynllun Cyfansoddi 2018-19 Ensemble Psappha a chael ei gomisiynu i greu darn ar gyfer cyngherddau Listenpony.

Joss Smith works within various mediums, ranging from purely sound orientated works to electronic music, instrumental theatre and performance art. A linking factor between these different approaches is the use of expectation to build tension and subvert compositional narratives.

Joss has had works performed by a number of ensembles, including Aurora Orchestra, Ensemble X.Y, Aurora Trio and Esbjerg Ensemble. Recent accomplishments include being a part of Psappha Ensemble’s 2018-19 Composing for… scheme and being commissioned to write a piece for the Listenpony concert series.

Joss has a masters degree in composition from Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium in Aarhus, Denmark where he received tuition from Simon-Steen Andersen, Juliana Hodgkinson and Niels Rønsholdt and has completed a bachelor’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with Huw Watkins, Tansy Davies and Gary Carpenter with additional tuition from Peter Maxwell Davies and Oliver Knussen.
