Hybrid event to be held online and at Capitol Centre, Cardiff and Centre Celf, Llandrindod
17:00, Tuesday 03.12.24
Disability Arts Cymru is taking on a challenging task, pulling together a 3-way hybrid event for International Day of Disabled People on 03/12, generously funded by Ty Cerdd.
Come along to our venues if you’re in Cardiff – hosted by Aubergine Café at Dyddiau Du, in the Capitol Centre or in Powys - hosted by Celf O Gwmpas at Centre Celf in Llandrindod Wells, or join online from the comfort of your own home. We know there’s lots happening during the day at the Senedd, so make sure you’re home in time for this impressive line up of talented disabled musicians from across Wales.
We are going to create the new Progress Pride Flag whilst the event runs (get one for yourself; it’s surprising how cheap they can be). By stitching a gold thread or ribbon ¼ of the way along the flag from the right side, we are affirming that ¼ or 25% of the population are disabled people, including lots of people who fly this flag but have only ever had part of their identity represented on the flag. We can now be represented as the intersectional, complex, 3-dimensional people that we are. Disability isn’t something to stick on top of things; it’s threaded through the very fabric of who we are.
Back to the evening’s entertainment – we are going to have a full hour of hybrid programming, with performers rotating in from the two venues and online. That will be followed by another hour of open mic fun. There’s no ticket cost, just register for a space before they run out. https://dacymru.fillout.com/DACabaret
If you’re in Powys, we know that there are musicians out there, we just want to know where you all are and whether you’d like to play, come along to enjoy the show at Celf O Gwmpas, put your friends in a car and drive them up.
This is a pilot event, and we hope to start a new hybrid event series if it all goes well – and why wouldn’t it? It’ll be alright on the night, won’t it? It would be amazing to have your support at one of the venues or online.
