WOMEX 2022 BURSARIES

WOMEX – Worldwide Music Expo – is the largest gathering of the global music scene, featuring a trade fair, conference, and a programme of showcase concerts. The event takes place this year in Lisbon (Portugal) from 19 to 23 October, and Tŷ Cerdd (with support from Wales Arts International) is offering bursaries to support organisations and individuals to attend as delegates.

Tŷ Cerdd, Trac Cymru and Wales Arts International will be managing the Welsh presence at the event – including a Cymru/Wales stand at the expo under the Horizons brand UK & Ireland.

For any organisations or artists wanting to find out more about WOMEX, the opportunities it offers and the bursaries we’re offering, we’re holding a Zoom session on Tuesday 19 July @ 17:00. Tumi Williams (musician; artist-manager), Eluned Haf (Director of WAI), Danny KilBride (Director of Trac Cymru)  and Deborah Keyser (Director of Tŷ Cerdd) will talk about the event and there’ll be time for Q&A and discussion. ORGANISATIONS

5 bursaries of £500 are available. Please email Jodi Voyle answering the following questions by 18:00 on Monday 1 August (NB: video applications are also accepted – send your video of no more than 5 minutes covering the bullet points below)

  • Organisation name, address, website/social media handles

  • Details of the person who would attend: name, position, email address. mobile numberHi

  • Short description of the organisation’s work (up to 100 words)

  • Have you or your organisation attended WOMEX before? If yes, what were the outcomes? (up to 100 words)

  • What would your aims be in attending the 2022 event? (up to 200 words)

INDIVIDUALS

3 bursaries of £750 are available. Please email Jodi Voyle answering the following questions by 18:00 on Monday 1 August (NB: video applications are also accepted – send your video of no more than 5 minutes covering the bullet points below)

  • Short description of your practice/professional work (up to 100 words); if you’re an artist please send 2 audio/audio-visual link to your music

  • Have you attended WOMEX before? If yes, what were the outcomes? (up to 100 words)

NOTES TO APPLICANTS

  • Genre  WOMEX covers a broad artistic range, ranging from the most traditional to the new global local underground, embracing folk, roots, jazz, local and diaspora cultures as much as urban and electronic sounds from all over the globe

  • Equality, diversity & inclusion  we are keen to receive applications from individuals who are under-represented / have faced neglect or exclusion from the arts community; we particularly welcome applications from disabled people, Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people, LGBTQ+ people, and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
