Jake Thorpe is a composer and musician based in Cardiff. He graduated in 2022 from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in both electronic and notational composition.

Jake's composition ‘Ascension’ was performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as part of their Composition: Wales scheme. ‘By The Lakes Edge’ was also performed by the Welsh National Opera trombone section as part of their composition competition. Jake’s ‘Cottonopolis’ was selected as the winner of the A4 Brass 2020 composition competition.

 

Alongside Jake’s notated works, his sample based, hip-hop inspired project ‘Don’t Touch This Selfish Mind’ was performed as part of RWCMD’s Atmosphere’s Festival. Jake’s current compositional style is adaptable, adventurous and aims to challenge modern perceptions of classical music.
