Timothy Johnston 1994

Mae Timothy Johnston yn cyfansoddi cerddoriaeth i’r neuadd gyngerdd a’r sgrin. Mae’n arweinydd brwdfrydig, ac yn berfformiwr ar y piano a’r soddgrwth, yn ogystal ag yn ganwr corawl a gwerin. Graddiodd o Brifysgol Caerdydd yn 2017 (BMus Anrh.) ac o Brifysgol Bryste (MA, Rhagoriaeth, 2018) gan arbenigo mewn cyfansoddi ar gyfer ffilm, dan hyfforddiant John Pickard a Richard Blackford.

Mae Timothy yn canolbwyntio’n benodol ar naratif ac atgofion gweledol yn ei gerddoriaeth. Deillia hyn o’i waith gyda’r cyfryngau a cherddoriaeth werin, a chael profiad o glywed lliw. Mae ganddo ddiddordeb arbennig yng ngherddoriaeth cyfansoddwyr Prydeinig o ddechrau’r 20fed ganrif, ond ystyria bod ystod eclectig o gyfansoddwyr wedi dylanwadu arno, o Ralph Vaughan Williams a Morfydd Owen, i Harry-Gregson Williams a Barry Cockcroft.

Timothy Johnston composes music for both the concert hall and for screen. His musical interests lie in exploring the interaction between contemporary classical music with folk and vernacular cultures, with a particular focus on narrative in his music. This is drawn from his work both with visual media and folk music, and from experiencing colour hearing. He counts an eclectic range of composers amongst his influences, from Morfydd Owen to Barry Cockcroft.

Timothy is conducting his PhD studies at Cardiff University, under the supervision of Dr Robert Fokkens and Dr Carlo Cenciarelli, on ‘New Intersections of Western Art Music and Vernacular Culture’. He graduated from Cardiff University in 2017 (BMus Hons., First Class), and from the University of Bristol (MA, Dist., 2018) specialising in composition for film, under the tuition of John Pickard and Richard Blackford.
