Mi ddechreuais y prosiect yma o le pur iawn, gan ddefnyddio llais Miss M.M. Williams yn unig (a recordiwyd ym 1959 yn Idanfryn, Ynys Môn), yn canu am gariad a cholled. A fesul tipyn dw i’n mynd o’i byd hi i’m byd innau, sy’n llawer iawn mwy aflafar ac iddo fwy o naws drefol.

Mae cysylltiad personol iawn i mi ar waith yma. Dw i wastad wedi perfformio ac ymgysylltu â cherddoriaeth draddodiadol Cymru. Y straeon. Y myth. Storïau teuluoedd. Y llawenydd. Yr ing. Wedi’m cyfareddu gan yr hiraeth. Sut gallwn ailgysylltu â’r gerddoriaeth hon a’r negeseuon ynddi mewn byd lle mae cymaint o newid? Beth fyddai’n digwydd pe bai’r ffurfiau hynafol ar ein cerddoriaeth yn cael eu colli wrth eu trosi, a’u claddu?

I started this project from a very pure place, just using the voice of Miss M. M. Williams (recorded 1959 in Idanfryn, Anglesey) singing of love and loss. And little by little I go from her world to my world, which is much more cacophonous and has a more urban sensibility.

There is a very personal connection for me at play here. I have always performed and connected with the traditional music of Wales. The tales. The myth. Stories of families. The joy. The heartache. Fascinated with the nostalgia. How can we reconnect with this music and the messages within in a world of such change? What would happen if the ancient forms of our music are lost in translation and buried?
