WHAT IS CoDI?

CoDI is our ongoing artist-centered creative development programme, supporting the creation and development of music in Wales. We support music-creators in and from Wales, across all genres, styles, and career stages.

Working in partnership with artists and organisations, CoDI delivers high-quality, paid and accessible creative opportunities shaped by the needs of participants.

Our 2026-27 CoDI ARTIST DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Rooted in the themes of experimentation, voice, and communication, the ‘26-27 programme offers a welcoming space for artists to explore ideas, take creative risks, and expand their practice in new directions.

​

Open to anyone making music in Wales, CoDI provides multiple pathways and entry points for artist development, as well as progression opportunities for established music-creators. Across a diversity of backgrounds, training, genres and career stages, participants are supported to develop their skills, grow their networks, and create ambitious new work.

Programmes range from collaborative workshops and residencies to performance and recording opportunities, spanning everything from contemporary classical, traditional music, folk, improvisation and jazz to experimental, electronic, R&B, singer-songwriters, and cross-genre practice. Alongside this, the Interact strand offers accessible workshops, mentoring, and networking (both online and in-person), supporting artists to build sustainable careers and meaningful connections.

We also run an artist-led record label, Sionci. Releases represent a broad range of music and artists from across Wales, sometimes platforming work created through our CoDI programme.

At its core, CoDI is about nurturing talent, amplifying voices, and supporting a vibrant, inclusive music scene in Wales where artists of any genre can thrive.

WHO DO WE MEAN BY 'ARTIST', 'MUSIC-CREATOR' OR 'COMPOSER'?

We use the terms ‘artist’, ‘composer’ and ‘music-creator’ interchangeably, regardless of genre or educational background. Different terms suit different people and practices. The CoDI programme supports artists who have come through formal education and training routes, as well as those who have come to music through other routes, such as through traditional music, bands, DIY practice or other sectors like Visual, Sound or Performing Arts.

 

WHAT CAREER STAGE IS THE CoDI PROGRAMME FOR?

We hope that our programme - comprising months-long development strands, one-off workshops, rsidentials, mentoring, one-to-ones, talks and networking events - will offer artists several points at which to access and engage with us. The strands and mentoring we offer in each year’s programme are aimed at a range of career stages, from recent graduates to early and mid-career artists, to established composers looking to sustain and expand their work.

 

HOW IS CoDI FUNDED?

Our 26-27 CoDI Progamme is generously supported by the Arts Council of Wales and PRS Founndation. We are proud members of the PRSF Talent Development Network. We are also active members of the Outlands Network and are one of the founding signatories on Sound & Music’s Fair Access Principles. Our funding from Arts Council of Wales includes a ringfenced figure to support traditional music artists, as part of our collaborative work to support the development of traditions in Wales.
