To celebrate St David’s Day 2026, Tŷ Cerdd presents Tapestri, a collection of short films capturing the spirit of 15 musical groups across the length and breadth of Wales. Tapestri weaves the vibrant story of Welsh music today.
Premiering on Sunday 1 March 2026, the films will be broadcast on AM, the digital home for the arts in Wales and on tycerdd.org. Shot during January 2026 by award-winning filmmaker Meinir Siencyn, the films offer an intimate look at the music being created today and the importance of such groups to communities across the country.
From a choir formed by refugees and asylum seekers to traditional folk ensembles, and from a brass band to a triple harp collective, from male voice choirs to a free-improvisation group, Tapestri proves that the sound of Wales is more diverse than ever before.
The groups in Tapestri are:
Most of the featured groups operate bilingually, performing in both Welsh and English, and several other languages are spoken and included in performances by the groups too, including Arabic, Hindi, Marathi, Yoruba, Turkish, Ido, Medumba, Punjabi, Creole, Tigrinya. Among the groups is a choir bringing the joy of singing to those living with dementia and their loved ones, another is tailor-made for those living with Parkinson’s, and two ensembles champion learning-disabled musicians.
Tapestri is made possible thanks to Welsh Government’s St David’s Day 2026 Fund, which is supporting projects across Wales in celebration of our heritage, culture and values. The fund aims to make St David’s Day 2026 the most memorable yet.
