John Furse
1951

Born 1951 in Burry Port. Raised and schooled in Cardiff. London University Music graduate. Before retirement, Music lecturer and teacher.

Several premières at Dartington International Summer School (2009-13) by Exaudi & members of I Fagiolini & the Dufay Consort.

​

Organ piece “Moot Points” won 2015 Colchester Moot Hall composition competition. Features on this 2021 CD: Freak out | Extraordinary music for organ - Regent Records (regent-records.co.uk).

Choral work “Fall, leaves, fall” première 2017 by BBC Singers, in concert curated by Judith Weir, then Master of The Queen’s Music. Recording subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Over fifty completed works, with the majority composed after 2010: more than twenty choral settings (mostly sacred) and almost a score of songs (Lorca predominating).

​

Lives in Norfolk, overlooking and overhearing the North Sea. Spends much time observing and photographing nature (particularly birds) . . . occasionally composing. Has had photographs published internationally.
