CALL: CoMA London Ensemble composers in residence 17.10.24

ree

CoMA London is seeking composers in residence for the calendar year 2026.

The composers in residence will become members of the group and play with it in all rehearsals and performances in that time. During the year each composer will create a new work which will be premiered in CoMA London Ensemble’s December concert.

The experience of playing with the ensemble will give the composers valuable insight into the way it works, how the ensemble interprets and develops new music for amateurs, and how to write successfully for it. In the course of the year they will be part of workshops for other composers’ new pieces, and will rehearse and perform commissions and pieces from the CoMA library.

The composers in residence will receive feedback and mentoring from Lucia Švecová, CoMA London Ensemble’s Music Director. They will also benefit from advice and suggestions from the group’s other members, many of whom have huge experience of working with composers on new music over the past three decades. Please note that there is no guaranteed funding associated with this residency.

Applicants must be able to play a woodwind, brass, string or percussion instrument to a reasonable standard to be considered for this role.

Applicants must be available to attend weekly Tuesday evening rehearsals at The People’s Palace, Queen Mary University (QMUL), Mile End Road, Tower Hamlets, E1 4NS, from 7-9.15pm during academic term-times, beginning on 6 January 2026.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 17 October 2025. A shortlist of applicants will be invited to interviews to be held via video call in the afternoon of Wednesday 5 November, and the selected composers will be informed shortly thereafter.
