Side by Side Choir celebrates 10 years with Award win and anniversary concert

Inclusive Caerphilly community choir Side by Side is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year after being named Charity Choir of the Year at the Wales Prestige Awards. The choir will mark the milestone with a special anniversary concert at Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall.
Founded in 2016, Side by Side began as a welcoming musical space for the autism community. Over the past decade, the choir has expanded to include people living with long-term health conditions, additional needs and those experiencing social isolation, growing into a thriving community recognised for both its musical quality and its commitment to inclusion and accessibility.
The Charity Choir of the Year award recognises Side by Side’s dedication to breaking down barriers to participation in the arts and promoting wellbeing through shared musical experiences across South Wales.
Rikki Pullen, Founder and Musical Director of Side by Side, said:
“Side by Side began with a simple belief that music should be accessible, welcoming and supportive for everyone. Over the past ten years we have built a community where people feel safe to participate at their own pace. Winning Charity Choir of the Year in our tenth year feels like a celebration of everything our members and volunteers have achieved together.”
Kerri, a member of the choir, said:
“The choir members are incredibly welcoming and I felt comfortable walking into choir on my own when my partner was not able to attend as the members are now like friends. The use of Teams means people who cannot attend in person can still take part. We even joined from our holiday in Spain and came away feeling really positive.”
10th Anniversary celebrations
The choir will mark the 10 year milestone with a special anniversary concert on 27 June 2026 at 6pm at Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall. The concert will celebrate a decade of music, community and connection and is open to the public.
