Six artists have been recruited to CoDi Opera – a development pathway for composers. Guiding them through the process will be: composer Robert Fokkens and writer/dramaturg Sophie Rashbrook, supported by soprano/composer Sarah Dacey.
Bethan Morgan-Williams, Eloise Gynn, Ethnie Foulkes, Gareth Olubunmi Hughes, Jasper Dommett and Rebecca Horrox have been selected for CoDI Opera. Through a series of workshops, composers will be given the tools to work confidently with text and narrative – moving from scenario, through libretto to writing for voice.
PATHWAY OUTLINE
Session 1: SCENARIO AND LIBRETTO
A session on scenarios: looking at how they are devised and constructed, and considering the relationship between the scenario, the libretto, and the score.
Session 2: SCENARIO TO LIBRETTO
Exploring approaches to libretto writing and the use of text more broadly in music theatre.
Session 3: LIBRETTO AND MUSIC
A practical, hands-on session, firstly looking at the libretti the participants have created; then working with soprano Sarah Dacey on the musical material they have created so far.
Session 4: MUSIC AND STAGING
Putting the music together and exploring how the piece might be staged.
