Quartet Draig: Gwlad y Gân

Gwlad y Gân draws together works on the theme of Land of Song, including a new commission by north Wales-based composer Cameron Biles-Liddell, the first recording of Huw Watkins’s String Quartet No. 1, and a trio of pieces by the quartet themselves, inspired by traditional Welsh folk tunes, Am Awen.

Quartet Draig are a Welsh String Quartet who formed in 2020 during their studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where they were winners of the Albion String Quartet and Bridgewood & Neitzert chamber prizes. They have made multiple appearances at the Wigmore Hall (Cavatina Competition, Musicians Company Competition), and in 2021 were Junior Quartet in Residence at the ESTA Conference. The quartet has been described as ‘An ensemble with energy, a wholly appropriate volatility within its interpretation, and buoyancy of tutti sound’. (Richard Bratby, Guardian).
