CoDI Buddies 2019/20 composer/music society partnerships
Tŷ Cerdd is delighted to announce the names of the composer/society pairings selected for its CoDI BUDDIES scheme. Part of Ty Cerdd’s composer development initiative, this scheme joins Welsh composers with non-professional music makers from around the country in a series of projects intended to create new works and forge links between creators and local communities.
The three partnerships are:
Gareth Churchill & South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus —developing a project which builds towards a genre-crossing, ‘docu-musical’ performance piece. Through exploring elements of spoken, vocalised and theatrically delivered text alongside more traditional instrumental and vocal textures the project will work towards creating a highly personal commentary on contemporary gay life in South Wales.
Carlijn Metselaar & Taff’s Well Community Singers — working together to create a fun, upbeat piece about the Choir and its community. The members will participate in improvisation sessions and will create lyrics and musical material which will form part of a in a piece for three-part choir and piano to be performed at Taff Fest in July 2020.
Owain Roberts & Band Pres Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen — developing a new work through a series of workshops and rehearsals. Inspiring the students with fresh and original material and encouraging them to experiment and explore different playing techniques and performance styles.
