The Tenby International Music Festival in Tenby, Wales announces the second installment of its Composer Fellowship Program, a tuition-free, fully virtual opportunity for emerging composers. Three Fellows will be selected, with one spot reserved for a Welsh composer. Each will have their composition workshopped and performed, with audio and video recordings provided for portfolio or promotional use. This initiative is a unique chance for composers and performers to collaborate in the creation and performance of contemporary chamber music in Wales.

Eligibility

All composers are eligible to apply. One of the three selected composers will be from or currently residing in Wales.

Instrumentation

1-8 musicians drawn from:

3 violins
2 violas
1 cello
1 piano (up to 4 hands)

Composition Guidelines

Up to 7 minutes
No electronics
Open and graphic scores are accepted
Individual movements of multi-movement works are accepted
May have been written at any time, and may have been performed, awarded, and/or recorded in the past
One submission per composer

Judging Criteria

The jury will comprise of composer Kian Ravaei (Director, Composition Fellowship), violinist Thomas Mathias (Artistic Director, Tenby International Music Festival), and pianist Dominic Ciccotti (Artistic Director, Tenby International Music Festival).

In the interest of having a transparent selection process, below are some of the criteria that will influence the jury’s decision.

Required rehearsal time and notational clarity will be taken into consideration
The jury will take into account the number of performances the composer has received in the past, prioritising those who would benefit most from this opportunity
