letting the light in features recordings made by Tŷ Cerdd of brand new works by six Disabled music-creators from across the UK – including Welsh composer Sarah Lianne Lewis.
The project is a partnership between Drake Music Scotland, Tŷ Cerdd, and NMC Recordings – and was made possible by Beyond Borders funding from the PRS Foundation. Welsh pianist Siwan Rhys, alongside Ben Lunn from Drake Music Scotland, worked with the six composers (Sarah Lianne Lewis plus Sonia Allori, Jo-anne Cox, Elinor Rowlands, Leon Clowes and Sorcha Pringle), and the new works were recorded in Tŷ Cerdd’s studio by Head of Recording and Production, James Clarke.
Deborah Keyser, Ty Cerdd’s director said:
“Supporting composers is central to our work, alongside a deep-rooted commitment to giving a voice to artists who have faced barriers. So when Ben Lunn and Drake Music Scotland approached us to partner on this project, we didn’t have to think twice: we know both pianist Siwan Rhys and composer Sarah Lianne Lewis well, as Welsh artists, and we relished another chance to work with them, together with other composers from around the UK.
Meeting the artists and recording their work was a joy and a privilege – their creativity, imagination and musical range are remarkable, and we learned such a lot from them that we’ll be taking forward in future initiatives.”
The album will be released on 20 September on NMC, and can be pre-saved HERE
Albwm newydd cerddoriaeth gan gyfansoddwyr anabl
Mae’r albwm letting the light in yn cynnwys gweithiau newydd sbon gan chwech o grewyr cerddoriaeth anabl o bob rhan o’r DU – gan gynnwys y gyfansoddwraig o Gymru, Sarah Lianne Lewis, wedi’u recordio gan Tŷ Cerdd.
Mae’r prosiect yn bartneriaeth rhwng Drake Music Scotland, Tŷ Cerdd, a Recordiadau’r NMC – ac fe’i gwnaed yn bosibl gan gyllid Beyond Borders gan y PRS Foundation. Gweithiodd y bianyddes Siwan Rhys, ynghyd â Ben Lunn o Drake Music Scotland, gyda’r chwe chyfansoddwr (Sarah Lianne Lewis yn ogystal â Sonia Allori, Jo-anne Cox, Elinor Rowlands, Leon Clowes a Sorcha Pringle), a’r gweithiau newydd wedi’u recordio yn stiwdio Tŷ Cerdd gan y Pennaeth Recordio a Chynhyrchu, James Clarke.
Dywedodd Deborah Keyser, cyfarwyddwr Tŷ Cerdd:
“Mae cefnogi cyfansoddwyr yn ganolog i’n gwaith ni, yn ogystal ag ymrwymiad dwfn i roi llais i artistiaid sydd wedi wynebu rhwystrau. Felly pan ddaeth Ben Lunn a Drake Music Scotland atom i gynnig partneriaeth ar y prosiect hwn, doedd dim rhaid i ni feddwl ddwywaith: rydyn ni’n adnabod y bianyddes Siwan Rhys a’r gyfansoddwraig Sarah Lianne Lewis yn dda, ill dwy yn artistiaid Cymreig, ac fe wnaethom fwynhau cyfle arall i weithio gyda nhw, ynghyd â chyfansoddwyr eraill o bob rhan o’r Deyrnas Unedig.
Roedd cwrdd â’r artistiaid a recordio eu gwaith yn bleser ac yn fraint – mae eu creadigrwydd, eu dychymyg a’u hystod cerddorol yn rhyfeddol, a dysgon ni gymaint ganddyn nhw ar gyfer mentrau yn y dyfodol.”
Caiff yr albwm ei ryddhau ar 20 Medi ar NMC, a gellir ei gadw ymlaen llaw YMA
